Who was Otto Pollmann?

Otto Franz Pollmann was a Kapitänleutnant of the Reserves with the Kriegsmarine during World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and its higher grade Oak Leaves was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Following World War II, Pollmann joined the military service of the Federal Republic of Germany with the Bundesmarine of the Bundeswehr on 1 July 1956 holding the rank of Korvettenkapitän. Here he served in the staff of the department for submarine hunters of the commando for Naval weapons. Pollmann died on 28 February 1958 while on active duty serving as a NATO liaison officer in the Netherlands.
