Who was Otto von Schrader?

Otto von Schrader was an Admiral in the German Navy during World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. As a U boat commander during World War I he was credited with the sinking of 57 ships for a total of 54,655 gross register tons, a further 6 ships damaged for a total of 52,333 GRT, including the SS Justicia, and one ship taken as prize for a total of 336 GRT. Von Schrader was taken prisoner of war in Norway at the end of World war II. He committed suicide in Norwegian captivity on 19 July 1945.
