Who was Pope Pius VII?

Pope Pius VII, born Barnaba Niccolò Maria Luigi Chiaramonti, was the head of the Roman Catholic Church from 14 March 1800 to his death in 1823. He was also a monk, theologian, and bishop. When he joined his religious order, he took the name of Gregorio.
