Who was Rudolph Spreckels?
Rudolph Spreckels was the son of Claus Spreckels, who was known as the Sugar King. Rudolph is primarily known for financing the San Francisco Graft Investigation between 1906-9. He would be shunned by other wealthy San Franciscans for attempting to clean up the city's corruption.
He also played a prominent role in California's progressive era, campaigning for the 1922 and 1924 Water and Power Act.
He would go bankrupt during the early years of the depression. His bank, the First National Bank of San Francisco would be taken over by Crocker.
