Who is Sandra Farmer-Patrick?

Sandra Farmer-Patrick is an American athlete who competed mainly in the 400 metres hurdles.

She competed for the United States in the 1992 Summer Olympics held in Barcelona, Spain where she won the silver medal behind Great Britain's Sally Gunnell. The following year at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics held in Stuttgart, Germany she again finished second behind Gunnell, both runners breaking the previous world record with Gunnell at 52.74 and Farmer-Patrick at 52.79.

Farmer-Patrick began her international career competing for her native country Jamaica. From 1988 onwards, she began competing for the United States, having married fellow 400 metre hurdler, David Patrick. Farmer-Patrick attempted to qualify for the US Olympic team in 1988, but was disqualified in her semi-final at the US trials for running out of her lane. She twice won the IAAF World Cup 400 m hurdles title, in 1989 and 1992.
