Who was Sarbel and Barbe?
Saints Sarbel and Barbe were legendary Christian martyrs of the city Edessa in Mesopotamia. Allegedly Sarbel was a pagan high priest at Edessa; Barbe was his sister. After converting to Christianity, they were tortured and killed under the Roman emperor Trajan. Their feast day is 29 January.
