Who was Scat Metha?

Frank Joseph "Scat" Metha was a Major League Baseball infielder. Born in Los Angeles, California, Metha stole 66 bases for Fort Worth of the Texas League in 1939. He was acquired by the Chicago White Sox in September 1939. In April 1940, the Detroit Tigers purchased Metha from the White Sox for $7,500 after the Tigers' second baseman, Charlie Gehringer suffered a leg injury. He played part of one season, 1940, as an infielder with the Detroit Tigers. In 26 games, he had three hits, including one single, and three RBIs for a .243 batting average. On August 12, 1940, the Tigers optioned Metha to Beaumont in the Texas League. Metha died in 1975 in Fountain Valley, California, at age 61. he was buried at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Whittier, California.
