Who is Scott Eckert?
As CEO of Motion Computing, Inc., Scott Eckert brings a wealth of
executive leadership, high-tech business experience and entrepreneurial
spirit to the company.
Prior to leading Motion Computing
to early success, including the No. 1 position in worldwide market
share for slate tablet PCs, he was an executive at Dell Inc. for six
years and widely known as the chief architect of that company’s
worldwide Internet strategy. Under his management, Dell’s electronic
commerce revenue grew from zero to about $20 million per day, making it
the largest computer vendor on the Internet and one of the most
celebrated e-commerce success stories.
Mr. Eckert was also general manager for Dell’s Home and Small Business
Division in Brazil and was responsible for implementing a turnaround in
one of Dell’s strategic target markets. Prior to his time in Brazil, he
was managing director for Dell’s Home and Small Business Division in
the UK and Ireland, one of Dell’s largest international business units
with 900 employees and revenues exceeding $800 million.
Mr. Eckert also launched Dell’s Web hosting business in Europe,
claiming the No. 2 position in the UK market within six months.
Prior to joining Dell, Mr. Eckert was a member of a turnaround team at
L.A. Gear, the nation’s third largest shoe manufacturer. He served as
director of strategic planning and subsequently director of operations.
Mr. Eckert also spent a number of years in strategy consulting with
Bain and Co. and the LEK Consulting Group in Los Angeles and Sydney,
Australia.
In 2004, Mr. Eckert was selected as an Ernst Young Entrepreneur
of the Year for Austin. This distinction is among the world’s most
prestigious awards for entrepreneurs. Mr. Eckert was also the inaugural
winner of the Computerworld Smithsonian Program’s 21st Century Pioneer
Award in 1998. The award recognizes “individuals whose ideas and
actions are destined to open the new frontiers of a new millennium.” He
was recognized in the Museum of American History, Smithsonian
Institution, from 1998 through 1999. He was also selected as a “Digital
Media Master” by Advertising Age as well as one of 75 “people who make
a difference in enterprise networking,” by Network World.
Mr. Eckert earned a master's degree in business administration from
Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree in quantitative
economics from Stanford University.
