Who was Sibdas Bhaduri?

Sibdas Bhaduri was an Indian professional footballer who captained Mohun Bagan in the historic 1911 IFA Shield Final, where they defeated the East Yorkshire Regiment with a score of 2-1 to become the first Asian team to win the competition.

Sibdas along with his elder brother Bijoydas Bhaduri played as a forward in the 1911 final and scored the equalizer to level the match 1-1 before Abhilash Ghosh scored the winner.

Although he played for Mohun Bagan for his entire life, Sibdas was a Bangal by origin, hailing from the eastern part of Bengal presently in Bangladesh. He supported the formation of East Bengal Club in 1920 like many other prominent Bangal people of the era.

While visiting the Indian pilgrim town of Puri in 1932, Sibdas contracted malaria and died at the age of 44 years.

In 2003 he posthumously received the Mohun Bagan Ratna Award from Mohun Bagan.

In the 2011 movie Egaro Sibdas Bhaduri is portrayed by actor Hirak Das.Abhilash Ghosh is portrayed by Ronodeep Bose.
