Who was Sir Richard Bampfylde, 4th Baronet?
Sir Richard Warwick Bampfylde, 4th Baronet was a British politician.
He was the only son of Sir Coplestone Bampfylde, 3rd Baronet and his wife Gertrude Carew, daughter of Sir John Carew, 3rd Baronet, and he was baptised in Poltimore in Devon. In 1727, aged only five, he succeeded his father as baronet. Bampfylde was educated at New College, Oxford and graduated with a Master of Arts in 1741. He was Member of Parliament for Exeter from 1743 to 1747 and subsequently for Devonshire until his death in 1776.
On 8 August 1742, he married Jane Codrington, daughter of Colonel John Codrington in the chapel of Somerset House. They had six sons and seven daughters. Bampfylde was buried at Poltimore and was succeeded in the baronetcy by his eldest surviving son Charles. The poet John Codrington Bampfylde was his third son.
