Who was Sir William Barker, 5th Baronet?
Sir William Barker, 5th Baronet was a British politician.
He was the son of Sir John Barker, 4th Baronet and Bridget Bacon, daughter of Sir Nicholas Bacon. In 1696, he succeeded his father as baronet. He was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge. Barker entered the British House of Commons for Ipswich in 1708, representing it to 1713. He was subsequently Member of Parliament for Thetford until 1715 and for Suffolk from 1722 until his death in 1731.
Barker married firstly Mary Bence, only daughter of John Bence, and by her he had an only child. On 9 February 1731 he married secondly Anne, widow of Edward Spencer, at St Marylebone Church in London. Barker was succeeded in the baronetcy by his son John.
