Who was William Stevenson?
Sir William Alfred Stevenson, KBE CStJ, was a New Zealand industrialist, philanthropist and local body politician.
He was the son of William Stevenson who founded the company Stevenson Group in 1912. Sir William was Chairman of the Howick Town Board, then Mayor of Howick, New Zealand. Sir William was knighted for his service to the community and was a philanthropist who supported many causes and charities. He was an industrialist, a contractor, a great sportsman and a New Zealand single sculls rowing champion.
