Who was Sone Lal Patel?
Dr. Sone Lal Patel was a Kurmi leader, and National President of Apna Dal, a Kurmi caste oriented regional political party in India with minor presence in Uttar Pradesh. Born in 1950 in Bagulihai village of Kannauj district, he had a doctorate in Physics from the Kanpur University. He was considered close to Kanshi Ram and contributed immensely to the establishment of Bahujan Samaj Party. He later parted to form his own political outfit, Apna Dal due to differences with BSP's current chief Mayawati in November 1995. He died in a road accident in Kanpur on Oct 17, 2009. His Daughter Anupriya Patel won the Rohaniya seat in Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly election, 2012. Smt. Krishna Patel is National President of Apna Dal and Anupriya Patel is National Secretary of Apna Dal.
