Who is Terrence Barr?

Terrence Barr is the Technical Evangelist of the

Java Mobile and Embedded Community where he drives the growth of the

open source community, promotes Java ME technology, establishes

relationships with developers, other communities, and parties in the

Java ME ecosystem, and provides technical guidance and content.

Barr has more than 18 years of industry experience with 10 of

those years at Sun. A frequent speaker at technical conferences,

including JavaOne 2005 and 2007, Barr also publishes articles and

papers on a variety of software and embedded system topics.

Prior to his position of Technical Evangelist, Barr worked as

Principal Engineer and Technical Lead on a number of projects at Sun,

including the software design and first operating system of Sun's MAJC

processor, a multi-core VLIW architecture as well as on the operating

system and virtual machine implementation of the picoJava processor

core, a Java bytecode engine.

Barr is chair of the EEMBC Java subcommittee, co-author of the

JSR 246 client device management standard, a recent member of the OMA

Device Management Working group, and co-creator of the ANSI VITA 19.1

and 19.2 standards. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from

Fachhochschule Muenchen, the Munich University of Applied Sciences in

Germany. He holds several U.S. and European patents in the areas of

software design and architectures.
