Tibni
Male, Person
Who is Tibni?
Tibni was a claimant to the throne of Israel and the son of Ginath. Albright has dated his reign to 876 – 871 BC, while Thiele offers the dates 885 – 880 BC.
Following the death of Zimri, a considerable number of the people chose Tibni as monarch, and he contended for the throne against Omri who also had an equal amount of supporters as Tibni. Them and their forces fought each other for several years until Omri's forces prevailed and Tibni's death. Tibni's death is recorded but not explained.
Tibni appears to have been of Jerahmeelite origin as his rival Omri.
It was suggested that Tibni is a nickname meaning "man of straw".
