Who is Vladimír Remek?

Vladimír Remek is a Czech politician, diplomat and sales representative, and a former cosmonaut and military pilot. He is the first Czechoslovak in space and the first cosmonaut from a country other than the Soviet Union or the United States. As of 2004, with the entry of the Czech Republic into the European Union Vladimír Remek is considered to be the first astronaut from the EU. He flew aboard Soyuz 28 from March 2 to March 10, 1978, for seven days, 22 hours, and 17 minutes. In 2004 he was elected into the European Parliament.
