Who was Walter Körner?
Walter Körner was a Hauptsturmführer in the Waffen-SS during World War II. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World War II.
Walter Körner was born on the 26 January 1923, in Graz Austria. He volunteered to join the SS-VT and took part in the Anschluss of Austria in March 1938 and the occupation of the Sudetenland in October 1938. During World War II he was the Adjutant in the 23rd SS Panzergrenadier Regiment Norge, 11th SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division Nordland when he was awarded the German Cross in Gold in April 1944 and a posthumous Knight's Cross in May 1945.
