William Condon
Pirate, Ship owner
Who is William Condon?
Captain William Condon was an English pirate. His ship, the Fiery Dragon, was found by Barry Clifford off the coast of Sainte-Marie, Madagascar, where it had caught fire and sunk in 1721. His real name is tremendously uncertain – he has additionally been known under the surnames Condent, Congdon, Connor or Condell; various given names also arise, including William, Christopher, Edmond or John. He is often known as Christopher Condent, but perhaps most commonly known simply as "Billy One-Hand".
He retired and settled on Réunion in 1721. He later moved to Normandy in 1723 and worked as a merchant and shipowner.
