Who was William H. Dobelle?
Dr. William H. "Bill" Dobelle was a biomedical researcher who developed experimental technologies that restored limited sight to blind patients. In addition, Dobelle is known for the impact he and his company had on the breathing pacemaker industry with the development of the only FDA approved device for Phrenic nerve pacing. It was widely reported that Dobelle was nominated with Dr. Willem Johan Kolff for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2003, although officially the list of nominees is sealed for 50 years after announcement of the winner.
