Who was William Sebring Kirkpatrick?
William Sebring Kirkpatrick was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.
William S. Kirkpatrick was born in Easton, Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools and Lafayette College in Easton. He studied law, was admitted to the bar, and commenced practice in Easton. He was the solicitor of Easton from 1866 to 1874. He worked as a teacher in the Easton public schools in 1868 and 1869. He was appointed president judge of the third judicial district in 1874, and served as a member of the faculty of Lafayette College from 1875 to 1877 and member of the board of trustees from 1890 to 1932. He presided temporarily over the Republican State convention in 1882. He was a delegate to the 1884 Republican National Convention. He was Attorney General of Pennsylvania from 1887 to 1891. He served as lecturer on municipal law at Lafayette College.
Kirkpatrick was an unsuccessful candidate for election in 1894. He was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-fifth Congress. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1898. He resumed the practice of law and died in Easton, in 1932. Interment in Easton Cemetery.
