Who is Yossi Brackman?
Yossi Brackman is a rabbi at the University of Chicago and, together with his wife Baila, serves as the director of the Chabad Jewish Center that serves the university and the Hyde Park Jewish community.
Rabbi Brackman received his rabbinical ordination through the Central Lubavitch Yeshiva.
Rabbi Yossi Brackman was born and raised in London, England, where he received his education at the Lubavitch House Schools. Throughout his teenage years Yossi spent his vacations organizing and directing communal programs and children’s camps in many cities and countries, including his hometown of London, Seattle, Washington, and New York.
In 1997 he was instrumental in founding the Lubavitch Mesivta of Chicago for Rabbinical students on Chicago’s North Side. It was in Chicago that he completed his studies and received rabbinical ordination.
In 1999, after their marriage, Yossi and Baila Brackman spent a few months as interim leaders of the Jewish community in Shanghai, China. In September 2000 they moved to Chicago to establish the Chabad Jewish Center at the University of Chicago.
Rabbi Brackman has also taught Jewish studies at various schools, including the Seymour J. Abrams Hebrew Day School and Lubavitch Girls High School and Yeshivat Tomchei Temimim.
