Who is Yves Jégo?
Yves Jégo is a French politician who was appointed Secretary of State for Overseas in the government of François Fillon on 18 March 2008. He was replaced by Marie-Luce Penchard on 23 June 2009 and was not given another portfolio. He was a major player in the 2009 French Caribbean general strikes, his role being the subject of controversy.
Jégo has been a member of the French National Assembly since 2002, and mayor of Montereau-Fault-Yonne since 1995. He is vice president of the Radical Party. He has also been a spokesman for the current ruling party, the Union for a Popular Movement. He is also founder and president of a local party, the Mouvement des Seine-et-Marnais.
