Who is Yves Mekongo?

Yves Mekongo Mbala is a Cameroonian amateur basketball player currently playing collegiately in the United States. He is a 6 ft 7 in, 210 lbs. forward originally from Yaoundé. He is a three-year starter for the La Salle Explorers of the Atlantic 10 Conference. During his 2008-09 junior year, Mekongo was the Explorers' leading rebounder, pulling down six boards per game, and third leading scorer, scoring 10.4 points per game. He was named to the Atlantic Ten Conference's All-Academic Team in both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.

Mekongo participated in the 2009 FIBA Africa Championship as a member of the Cameroon national basketball team. He pulled down a game-leading eight rebounds in the bronze medal game against Tunisia, but the team lost the game and finished short of qualifying for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

Mekongo was named to the 30-man preseason candidate list for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award prior to the 2009-10 season.
