Who is Alex Meruelo?

Alex Meruelo is Principal and CEO of Meruelo Group. Meruelo Group began in 1986, with the creation of La Pizza Loca, a fast food pizza restaurant focused on the Hispanic community. Institutional customers include the Los Angeles Unified School District and entertainment arenas such as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena, the Forum and the Greek Theater.

Mr. Meruelo has also invested in residential and commercial real estate throughout Southern California, again primarily in Latino neighborhoods. Since 1987, Mr. Meruelo has acquired and managed over 1,000 residential units and over 20 retail units, and has overseen more than 15 developments.

In 1999, Mr. Meruelo entered the construction industry through Meruelo Enterprises Inc., the parent company of established Southern California utility construction contractors Herman Weissker, Inc., Doty Bros. Equipment Company, Tidwell Excavation, and electrical contractors Neal Electric Corp., and Select Electric, Inc. These companies work extensively on major private and public construction projects.

In 2003, Mr. Meruelo co-founded Commercial Bank of California, serves on its Board, and is its majority shareholder.
