Who is Alexandr Sklyar?

Aleksandr Sklyar is a Kazakhstani swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle events. He is a multiple-time national record holder and a six-time medalist for the freestyle and relay swimming events at the Asian Indoor Games. Sklyar also won a silver medal, as a member of the Kazakhstan swimming team, in the 4×100 m freestyle relay at the 2008 Good Luck Beijing China Open.

Sklyar qualified for the men's 100 m freestyle at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing by clearing a FINA B-standard entry time of 50.89 from the Russian Open Swimming Championships in Saint Petersburg. He challenged seven other swimmers on the third heat, including sixteen-year-old swimmers Virdhawal Khade of India and Christopher Duenas of Guam. Sklyar cruised to fourth place by 0.74 of a second behind Barbados' Martyn Forde, with a time of 51.24 seconds. Sklyar, however, failed to advance into the semifinals, as he placed fifty-second out of 64 swimmers in the preliminaries.
