Who is Alexey Zinovyev?
Aleksey Anatolyevich Zinovyev is a Russian swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. He won the silver medal for the 200 m breaststroke at the 2007 European Junior Swimming Championships by two seconds behind Hungary's Dániel Gyurta, with a time of 2:12.48. He also set a games record of 2:14.78 by claiming the gold medal in the same discipline at the 2008 FINA Youth World Swimming Championships in Monterrey, Mexico.
Zinovyev qualified for the men's 200 m breaststroke at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by clearing a FINA A-standard entry time of 2:12.48 from the European Junior Championships in Antwerp. He challenged seven other swimmers on the fifth heat, including his teammate Grigory Falko, and Bulgaria's Mihail Alexandrov. Zinovyev rounded out the field to last place by nearly four seconds behind Canada's Mathieu Bois in 2:16.40. Zinovyev failed to advance into the semifinals, as he placed forty-fifth overall in the preliminary heats.
