Who was Alfred de Dreux?
Alfred de Dreux, a French historical and portrait painter, was born in Paris in 1810. He was the son of the architect Pierre Anne Dedreux, and nephew of P. J. Dedreux-Dorcy. He studied under Léon Cogniet, and painted animals as well as portraits. He died in Paris in 1860.
Note: Bryan erroneously writes that Alfred Dedreux was born in 1812. His birthday is 23 March 1810, as it can be seen on its birth certificate.
