Who was Algie Eggertsen Ballif?
Algie Eggertsen Ballif was an educational leader and politician in Utah. She was the sister of Virginia Sorenson and Esther Peterson.
Ballif was born to Lars E. and Annie N. Eggertsen in Provo, Utah. She received her bachelors degree from Brigham Young University. She married George S. Ballif in 1920. In 1924 he received a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
George was a city attorney for Provo and later District Attorney. Algie served for 23 years as a member of the University of Utah Board of Regents.
Algie served for 23 years on the Provo City Council. She served from 1959 to 1961 as a member of the Utah House of Representatives.
Their daughter Ann Greta Ballif was the wife of Chase N. Peterson who served as president of the University of Utah.
