Who was Allen Johnson?

Allen Johnson was an American historian, Professor of history at Yale University. His books include Stephen A. Douglas: A Study in American Politics, Readings in American Constitutional History, 1776–1876. Union and Democracy The Historian and Historical Evidence, and Readings in Recent American Constitutional History, 1876–1926. He was also editor of the Dictionary of American Biography and of Yale University Press' 50-volume Chronicles of America series. Johnson's Jefferson and His Colleagues appeared in the series.
