Who is Amrut Ghayal?

Amrutlal Laljee Bhatt the famous Poet and Shayar with pen name Amrut Ghayal, is a famous name of mid 20th century in Gujarati Ghazal. 'Ghayal' was his title due to the mood and style of his Ghazals and Shayari offered, he became romanticized by the Ghazal lovers as 'Ghayal' or 'Amrut Ghayal'. His original name was Amrutlal Bhatt and he was born in Sardhar, Rajkot on 19 August 1916.

He studied up to matriculation and worked for Pajod Darabar, Khan Imanuddin Babi aka Ruswa Mazlumi as his confidential secretary. After independence in 1947, he worked as a clerk in PWD at Rajkot and many more parts of Saurashtra.

Already being a good scholar of Urdu and Persian poetry, Amrit Ghayal flourished into an outstanding Ghazal poet of Gujarati by 1940 once he started writing the Gujarati poetry. He was a Shayar of "Jusso" "Jom" and "Mijaj". Ghayal died on 25 December 2002 at Rajkot. Ghayal's quick biography
