Who is Andrew Hemingway?

Andrew Hemingway is an English artist.

Working slowly in pastels or egg tempera, Andrew Hemingway produces a very limited number of pictures each year - each one exact and exquisite. Born in Yorkshire, and studying at Barnsley School of Art and then at Camberwell, he went on to travel and paint in Italy, Norway and Japan. In 1980 he had his first painting accepted by the Royal Academy, the year he began what were to be regular showings with the Piccadilly Gallery. As well as their appearances in London, his work has been exhibited from Burford to Basel. There have also been displays in Cologne and Düsseldorf and in Edmonton, Alberta. Besides landscapes, he loves representing domestic interiors and still-life studies, which borrow from the vocabulary of the Dutch Old Masters and reflect the beauty and fragility of life. Andrew Hemingway is currently represented by Messum's Fine Art, Cork Street, London.
