Marquardt legte 1990 in Greifswald das Abitur ab und studierte zuerst Sport, danach von 1995 bis 2005, zeitweise mit einem Stipendium der Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung, Politikwissenschaft an der Freien Universität Berlin und schloss das Studium im Sommer 2005 mit dem Diplom ab.
