Who was Anna Whitlock?
Anna Whitlock, was a Swedish school pioneer, journalist and feminist. Daughter of the merchant Gustaf Whitlock and Sophie Forsgrén and sister of the feminist Ellen Whitlock.
She graduated from Högre lärarinneseminariet in Stockholm in 1875 and was the correspondent of Aftonbladet in Paris. In 1878, she founded a school in Stockholm with Ellen Key; the "Stockholms nya samskola" and later "Whitlockska samskolan" where she practised new methods such as students councils, parent days and free choiche of subject. She was also a feminist; she was the chairman of Swedish Society for Woman Suffrage in 1903-1907 and 1911-1912.
She was given Illis Quorum in 1918.
