Who is Arthur Atkinson?
Arthur "Artie" 'Bruss' Atkinson born in Castleford, was an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1920s, '30s and '40s playing at representative level for Great Britain, England, and Yorkshire, and at club level for Castleford, as a Centre, i.e. number 3 or 4.
Arthur Atkinson holds the world record for a goal kick in any form of rugby, he kicked a Penalty from 75-Yards in the 20-10 victory over St. Helens at Knowsley Road, St. Helens on Saturday 26 October 1929, a record that still stands today.
