Who was Bennet Hoskyns?

Sir Bennet Hoskyns, 1st Baronet was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons variously between 1640 and 1659.

Hoskyns was the son of Mr Serjeant Hoskyns and his wife Benedicta Moyle, daughter of Robert Moyle of Buckwell, Kent. His father was a poet, lawyer and politician.

In April 1640, Hoskyns was elected Member of Parliament for Wendover for the Short Parliament. He was elected MP for Hereford in 1646 an sat in the Long Parliament, but was excluded in Prides Purge. He was elected for Hereford again in 1654. In 1656 he was elected MP for Herefordshire and was re-elected in 1659.

Hoskyns was created a baronet on 18 December 1676.

Hoskyns died at the age of 71.

Hoskyns married Anne Bingley, daughter of Sir John Bingley of Temple-Combe Somerset. Their son John succeeded to the baronetcy.
