Who is Buffalo Tiger?

Chief Buffalo Tiger was the leader of the Miccosukee nation in Florida between the mid 1950s and the early 1970s, whose activism led to official recognition of the Miccosukee as a Native tribe in the United States.

He is most notable for leading a delegation to Cuba in 1959 which secured formal diplomatic recognition from the government of Fidel Castro to the Miccosukee as a sovereign, independent nation. In 1962 the US Government recognized the tribe. As a result of those efforts Buffalo and the tribe were better able to continue their way of life, culture, and traditions in their homeland.

Buffalo Tiger wrote an autobiography called Buffalo Tiger: A Life in the Everglades. He is no longer is involved in tribal business and runs an airboat tour company in the Florida Everglades.
