Chris Morgan
Politician
Who is Chris Morgan?
Chris Morgan was the Conservative mayor of North Tyneside, England, from his election in May 2002 until he resigned in April 2003.
He was the Borough's first ever directly elected mayor.
He resigned after he was arrested on charges related to child pornography. He was later brought to trial on the child pornography charges. The jury at Hull Crown Court found him not guilty of all charges in September 2004. A by-election was held to replace him - the winner was Linda Arkley. However in March 2005, North Tyneside Labour alleged that Morgan was still 'pulling the strings' on Arkley's proposed budget.
He returned to politics as campaign manager for his successor as mayor, Linda Arkley, and for Tynemouth General Election candidate Michael McIntyre, however, both lost.
