Who is Christopher W. Johnson?

Christopher W. Johnson is a British computer scientist and Professor of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow, UK. He is head of the Accident Analysis Group at the university, his main research interest being to better understand the failure of complex systems, including emergency response and contingency analysis. He has been elected as the Deputy Head of School of Computing Science in April 2014.

Johnson develops new techniques to support the development of complex safety and security critical systems. Over the last ten years, he has helped to author guidelines for the investigation of incidents and accidents across both the European aviation and railway industries. He has worked with members of the European Space Agency and with NASA on the software engineering of future space missions. He has also worked on security concerns with global navigation satellite systems. His team have also worked with various agencies around the world to develop simulations of mass evacuations following terrorist attacks and natural disasters. He is co-chair of the scientific advisory board for the €2 billion SESAR programme for the modernisation of European Air Traffic Management.
