Who is Clotilde Countess of Nassau-Merenberg?
Clotilde, Countess of Nassau-Merenberg, or rather Elisabeth Clotilde Countess von Merenberg is the last real descendant of the lineage Nassau, in a direct line and legal. She is the daughter of Count George von Merenberg and Elisabeth Müller-Uri. Clotilde is a psychiatrist. In 1965, she married Dr. Enno von Rintelen, a gynecologist. They have three sons: Alexander Enno, Georg Nicolaus and Gregor.
The Counts of Merenberg descend in a morganatic, but legal, way from Prince Nicolas Wilhelm of Nassau who married Natalia Pushkina in 1868. Prince Nicolas was a great-grandson of Prince Charles Christian, Prince of Nassau-Weilburg, 1735–1788, who in 1760 married Princess Carolina of Orange-Nassau, the daughter of the Dutch Stadtholder William IV and Anne, Princess Royal and Princess of Orange of the United Kingdom, 1707 - 1759. Clotilde Countess von Merenberg is also a great-granddaughter of the Russian Emperor Alexander II.
