Who is Dave West?

Dave West is a well known British entrepreneur with a number of successful business ventures.

Originally from Romford, Essex, Lord David West started his career at a very young age by following the family tradition and working as a market trader boy. When David was 18, he joined Merchant Navy, the decision that had helped him to shape his character and to become a defiant businessman.

Lord West built a family tobacco business in Belgium with his wife and children. In 1980 he founded a wholesale business on a double decker bus in Calais selling cheap alcohol and cigarettes on the back of a lorry. His business moved to permanent premises and was named EastEnders, which is now a part of the largest British owned cash and carry group in Europe. It also has its own house wine labels, “The Dogs Bollocks” and “Menage a Trois”, which had proven to be successful with naughty couples. Despite great pressures and animosity from French Government, David persevered and managed to sustain his massive presence in Calais. He was featured in over 140 British and French TV programs and a lot of articles were written on him in newspapers and magazines.
