Who is David P. Mapes?
David Parshall Mapes was an American pioneer businessman and politician.
Born in Coxsackie, New York, Mapes was in the lumber and steamboat transportation business. In 1831, he served in the New York State Assembly. He moved to Ripon, Wisconsin, which he helped found. He also help found Ripon College. He wrote an autobiographial and historical account about Ripon, Wisconsin. In the 1860s, Mapes moved to Winneconne, Wisconsin, where he opened a hotel. He died in Winneconne.
His son-in-law, Otto Christian Neuman, would become a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives.
