Who is David Petersen?
David T. Petersen is a sculptor from Cardiff, living in St. Clears. He mainly uses metal for his sculpting but also paints and draws.
His sons Toby and Gideon are also sculptors. The family won a competition to make the National Beacon for the millennium celebrations. David Petersen designed the Welsh first class postage stamp featuring a leek carved from wood. He also created the Mametz Wood Memorial, a three-metre-high sculpture of a Welsh dragon, commemorating the actions of the 38th Division during the First Battle of the Somme.
Petersen was also a Plaid Cymru candidate in the National Assembly elections for Brecon and Radnorshire constituency in 1999. He gained 2356 votes, 8.1% of the overall vote.
