Who is Derek Mackay?

Derek Mackay MSP is the Minister for Local Government and Planning in the Scottish Government and since 2011 has been the Scottish National Party Member of the Scottish Parliament for Renfrewshire North and West.

Mackay was elected to Renfrewshire Council in 1999 at the age of 21. From 2007 to 2011 he was Leader of the Council as part of an SNP-Liberal Democrat coalition administration and from 2009 to 2011 led the SNP group in the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities. He coordinated the SNP campaign in the 2012 Scottish local government elections.
