Who is Dmitriy Gordiyenko?

Dmitriy Gordiyenko is a Kazakhstani swimmer, who specialized in individual medley events. He is a multiple-time Kazakhstan record holder and a four-time medalist for the medley events at the Asian Indoor Games.

Gordiyenko qualified for two swimming events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, by clearing FINA B-standard entry times of 2:01.49 and 4:27.15 from the Kazakhstan Open Championships in Almaty. In the 400 m individual medley, Gordiyenko raced to second place and twenty-sixth overall on the first heat by three seconds behind Croatia's Nikša Roki in 4:25.20. In his second event, 200 m individual medley, Gordiyenko challenged seven other swimmers on the third heat, including three-time Olympian Jeremy Knowles of the Bahamas. He touched out Germany's Markus Deibler to obtain a seventh spot by 0.62 of a second with a time of 2:03.92. Gordiyenko failed to advance into the semifinals, as he placed thirty-seventh overall in the preliminary heats.
