Who is Dmytro Pylchykov?

Dmytro Pylchykov - Ukrainian civic and cultural activist, teacher.

1863 graduated from the historical-philological faculty of Kyiv University. After that he worked as assistant librarian in the same university. In 1846-1864 years he taught at Poltava Cadet Corps. 1846 met with Taras Shevchenko and joined Brotherhood of Saints Cyril and Methodius. In 1860-1870's took part in the national democratic movement, was a member and active advocate Ukrainophilism in Poltava community. In the 1870s maintained contacts with the Galician public and cultural figures, and with Mykhailo Drahomanov. 1873 Pylchykov while in Lviv became the founder of the literary society of Taras Shevchenko. Died Oct. 5 1893 in Kharkiv.
