Who was Edith Watson?
Edith S. Watson was an important photographer in Canada. She studied watercolours with her sister, Amelia Watson, and in the 1890s studied photography with her uncle, the botanist Sereno Watson. She came to Canada in 1896 and spent the next 35 years photographing rural people, often women, working across the country. In 1922, she and her partner Victoria Hayward published Romantic Canada, an illustrated travelogue of their journeys across Canada.
