Who was Edward George Ryan?
Edward George Ryan was an American jurist.
Born in County Meath, Ireland, Ryan moved to New York City in 1830. In 1836, Ryan became an United States citizen and was admitted to the New York bar. He then moved to Chicago, Illinois. In 1842, he moved to Racine, Wisconsin Territory where he practiced law. Ryan was elected to the first Wisconsin Constitutional Convention of 1846 and moved his law practice to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1874, Ryan was appointed Chief Justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court serving until his death.
