Who was Edward Martin?
Edward Martin was an English cricketer. Martin was a right-handed batsman.
Martin made his first-class debut for pre-county club Hampshire against the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1843. From 1843 to 1845, he played 5 first-class matches for Hampshire.
Martin also represented Kent from 1845 to 1851, making his debut for the county against Nottinghamshire. Martin played 31 first-class matches for Kent, with his final first-class match for the county coming against Sussex.
Martin also played first-class cricket for the West of England and Manchester Cricket Club. In his overall first-class career he scored 682 runs at a batting average of 9.34, with a single half century score of 60. With the ball he took 21 wickets at a bowling average of 17.66, with a single five wicket haul. Martin's exact best bowling figures are unknown, only that his greatest haul in an innings was 5 wickets.
As well as his first-class career, Martin also played non first-class matches for Dorset and Oxfordshire before the formation of the county clubs.
Martin died on 24 November 1869 at Barcombe, Sussex.
