Who is Eleni Kosti?

Eleni Kosti is a Greek swimmer, who specialized in freestyle events. She first represented the host nation as part of the women's freestyle relay team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, but was disqualified in the heats. Kosti and her teammates managed to redeem themselves in the relay by winning the bronze medal at the 2005 Mediterranean Games in Almería, Spain.

At her second Olympics in Beijing, Kosti qualified for two individual freestyle events. For her first event, 200 m freestyle, she swam in the third heat, against seven other competitors including seventeen year-old Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands, and Anna Stylianou of Cyprus, who made her Olympic comeback after eight years of absence. Kosti finished the race in last place, yet forty-fourth overall, with a time of 2:04.55. Few days later, she competed for her second event, 100 m freestyle, and swam once again in the third heat against Stylianou and six other competitors including Hannah Wilson of Hong Kong, and Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace of the Bahamas. She came in seventh place by just six hundredths of a second, to Stylianou, who finished behind her in the heat, with a time of 56.44 seconds. Kosti, however, failed to advance into the semi-final rounds, as she placed thirty-seventh in the overall rankings.
