Who was Eleonore of Liechtenstein?

Maria Eleonore of Liechtenstein was a princess of Liechtenstein and a politically influential Austrian salonist. She was born as a Princess of Oettingen-Oettingen and Oettingen-Spielberg, daughter of Prince Johann Aloys of Oettingen-Spielberg and his wife Princess Therese of Schleswig-Holstein-Weisenburg. From 1768 onward, she held a discussion circle with a group of people including Emperor Joseph II, who had been in love with her; she was influential upon Joseph, and continued to wield influence after his death in 1790.

On 30 March 1761, in Vienna, she married Prince Karl Borromäus of Liechtenstein. She and her spouse were the ancestors of a line of the Princely Family of Liechtenstein.

They had seven children:

Princess Maria Josepha Eleonore Nicolaus, married in Vienna on 29 January 1782 Johann Nepomuck Graf von Harrach zu Rohrau und Thannhausen, without issue.

Prince Karl Joseph Emanuel Albinus, married in Vienna on 28 September 1789 Marianne Josepha Gräfin von Khevenhüller-Metsch, and had issue:Prince Karl Joseph Franz Xaver Johannes Capistranus, 963th Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece in Austria, married in Vienna on 21 August 1819 Franziska Gräfin von Wrbna-Freudenthal, and had issue:Princess Anna Theresia Franziska Ludovika Josepha Caroline, married on 17 July 1841 Ferdinand 3rd Fürst von und zu Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg, and had issue.Princess Theresia Marianna Franziska Caroline Thaddäa.Princess Maria Eleonora Josepha Franziska Marianne.Prince Karl Rudolf, Fürst zu Liechtenstein, Karlischer Linie, on 18 April 1861, unmarried and without issue.Princess Maria Anna Josepha Carolina Franziska Theresia Agnatia.Princess Maria Elisabeth Caroline Franziska Stanislausa, married in Vienna on 12 June 1858 Hugo 4th Fürst und Altgraf zu Salm-Reifferscheidt-Raitz, and had issue.Princess Franziska Xaveria Marianna Elisabeth Wolfganga, married in Vienna on 14 August 1865 Joseph Prince and Duke von Arenberg, without issue.Princess Maria Josepha Elisabeth Theresia Karolina Januaria, married in Vienna on 5 April 1856 Ferdinand Bonaventura 7th Fürst Kinsky von Wchinitz und Tettau, 1,040th Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece in Austria, and had issue.Prince Rudolf Eugen Cresantius Ferdinand Karl, Fürst zu Liechtenstein, Karlischer Linie, 1,107th Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece in Austria, unmarried and without issue.Prince Leopold Carl Joseph Willibald.Princess Maria Eleonore Josepha Theresia Anna Agnes.
